What is REAGENT+?

REAGENT+ is a patent pending low-dead-volume dispensing cassette for the Thermo Scientific Multidrop Combi. With a dead volume of approximately 100 µL, it reduces reagent loss by about 90% compared with standard Multidrop Combi cassettes. As a drop-in replacement, REAGENT+ works on existing instruments without modification or special software, making low-volume dispensing of valuable reagents more cost-effective and resource-efficient.

REAGENT+ is particularly useful for workflows involving expensive, limited, or precious reagents, such as cell culture media, enzymes, antibodies, and other assay reagents. It can also be used for hydrogel-based workflows such as Matrigel or related ECM materials. For temperature-sensitive dispensing below gelation temperature, we recommend COLD+.

How it works

REAGENT+ is designed as a drop-in cassette for the Thermo Scientific Multidrop Combi. Instead of using a standard cassette layout with higher dead volume, REAGENT+ uses an optimized fluidic design with an EasyEmpty reservoir that is connected to a centralized inlet on the cassette. The liquid is then routed through a custom-designed low-dead-volume manifold to the eight dispensing lines of the Thermo Scientific Multidrop Combi.

The cassette connects through a single Luer-Lock interface, making it easy to attach reservoirs or tubing-based reagent sources. During dispensing, the reagent is distributed through a manifold to eight dispensing channels evenly and bubble-free. The manifold can be cleaned and sterilized easily and helps reduce waste, especially in low-volume dispensing workflows.

Instead of feed tubes the cassette features a Luer-Lock connector. A sterilized EasyEmpty reservoir can be screwed onto the cassette and emptied completely into the cassette inlet.

Yes. The full cassette including the manifold and reservoirs can be cleaned and sterilized using ethanol or other cleaning and sterilizing agents. It can also be wiped with ethanol and UV-sterilized. Sterilized EasyEmpty reservoirs are available in four sizes: 3 mL, 5 mL, 10 mL, and 30 mL.

Yes, REAGENT+ can be used for Matrigel and related ECM materials. However, the Matrigel will be dispensed above its gelation temperature, making dome formation difficult. We recommend using COLD+ to reliably generate Matrigel domes in an automated fashion.
